SUSTAINABILITY
Biju was founded on one simple question. How can we create a fashion brand that works better for people and planet? We are commited to fighting climate change through the fibres we source, manufacturing models we support and the designs we aim to last forever.
MADE-TO-ORDER
Every sweater we knit is made with intention for one person alone. That means we can customise the design to meet your specific needs. It also means that nothing is produced speculatively, rejecting the traditional fashion manufacturing model. Global Fashion Agenda reports that 92 million tons of textile waste is created annually by the fashion industry due to overproduction and overconsumption, and this figure is set to rise to more than 134 million tonnes by 2030. By producing made-to-order garments that are designed to last, we aim to help prove this projection wrong.
CASHMERE
Rejecting petrochemical fibres like polyester was a given, but choosing which natural fibres to source was trickier. Cashmere is an industry fraught with issues. By sourcing Cradle-to-Cradle certified yarn, we are investing in the health of not only the goats and the herdsmen who care for them, but also the soil of Inner Mongolia - a region facing desiccation due to untenable agricultural practices that we stand apart from. When faced with the option to either reject cashmere or make change, we opted to lean in.
LASTING & INCLUSIVE
Celebrating individuality, authenticity and sustainability, our special knitwear pieces are meant to be treasured forever. Our styles stand outside the cycle of fashion trends and cater to a wide range of body shapes and aesthetics. The most sustainable thing you can do as a fashion consumer is wear your wardrobe for a lifetime. We've densely knitted the highest quality yarn possible to reduce the possibility of pilling. Our Cashmere Care guide offers simple steps you can take to extend the life of your sweater and ensure it does not end up in a landfill.
HAND-CRAFTED
Hand-tacked at our small factory in Scotand, our brand labels are a blend of wool and recycled poly. Reducing needless waste, we have opted out of swing tags, and used QR codes instead. Sweaters are individually wrapped in jewellery box-inspired packages that are made from recycled paper and designed to be re-purposed. Make sure to pop your compostable mailer with the food waste.
