CASHMERE CARE

Cashmere is valuable and limited resource.  Follow these simple steps to make it last a lifetime.

  • WASH SPARINGLY

Unless your drink gets knocked across your sleeve or your son decides to use your shoulder as a tissue, your sweater shouldn't need washing very often. It's helpful to wear a cotton t-shirt underneath or opt for underarm pads which are great for shielding your sweater from sweat. When the time finally comes, your Biju can be washed at home at 30C on the wool cycle. Make sure to let it air dry and feel free to give it a nice steam before you fold it for next use.

  • STORE THOUGHTFULLY

Biju sweaters can be worn all year round if you live in a place like London with its unpredictable weather. If you are lucky enough to spend enough time in a place where a sweater over the shoulder in the evening is not necessary, it is imperative that you wash it before storing it (moths love a stain). There are multiple means to store cashmere effectively. Cedar closets and lavender sachets are great, but it is still recommended to place your sweater in an air-tight bag.

  • MAKE-DO-AND-MEND

If areas have been subjected to enough abrasion, even the best quality cashmere will start to pill. An electric fabric shaver is magic for removing these bobbles. The other issue you can face is blowouts - at the elbow or in the seam of the armpit are common spots. If you are feeling creative you can attempt to mend at home - The Art of Repair by Molly Martin is a brilliant tool for teaching you how and gives lovely upcycling ideas. If you are time-poor or not craft-inclined, Sojo are maestros at refurbishing cashmere - and they do house calls!
